Before School Reading Program
This article is about our Club's before school reading program, that is in it's fourth year.

Passing the hat for Katrina victims
The Crosby, ND, Kiwanis Club raised nearly $1,000 to help the young victims of Hurricane Katrina.

New Rockford Kiwanis Club starting Aktion Club

The New Rockford, North Dakota Kiwanis Club Board recently voted to establish an Aktion Club. The Club plans on having the Aktion Club operational by September 2005. The 4th Corporation, a non-profit organization serving adults with developmental disabilities in New Rockford, Carrington, Fessenden, and Devils Lake will be co-operating with the New Rockford Kiwanis in establishing the Aktion Club.


Governor Stewart Ross Scheduled to Visit Region One
Minnesota-Dakotas Governor Stewart Ross and Liz Ross will be in Bismarck, ND, for the Region One Governor's Conference on October 8.  The day-long conference will feature the Governor's keynote address and his workshop on new member orientation and membership enhancement.

New Rockford Kiwanis Club , Aktion Club and K-Kids Club join together for Service

The New Rockford Kiwanis,Aktion and K-Kids Clubs assembled food baskets for 49 families in the New Rockford area.  The Kiwanis and K-Kids Clubs also did Salvation Army Bell Ringing two Saturdays in December.


Bismarck Golden K Raises Conducts a Holiday Fundraiser
The practice of year-end charitable giving was the inspiration for Bismarck Golden K's holiday fundraising project in which club members gave individual gifts totaling $1,125 for the Region One Kiwanis Playground at Fort Mandan. 

Kiwanis of Jamestown Auction

The Region 1 Jamestown, North Dakota Kiwanis held a fundraiser auction September 25th with an evening of good food and fellowship.  Fifteen Kiwanis members attended along with several spouses and guests.  Each Kiwanis member donated a variety of different items from “A to Z” with Cliff Orr, More From Orr Auction Service, donating his time, talent and services for the cause.  

 


Guest reader at RIF program

At Cannonball Elementary School a special visitor read to the lower grades recently.  Jim Fritzhuspen, administrator of Spirit of Life church in Mandan, was the guest reader at a  Reading is Fundamental project at the school.  Jim captivated the first graders with his reading and his winning spirit and then moved on to read to the second and third graders who happily entered into the "pumpkin" theme.

 

The children were then invited to choose a new book to take home with them.  They also chose matching cap and scarf sets generously crafted and donated by a sister of Theresa Schaner, Kiwanis vice-president, who lives out of state. The students look forward to the three visits per year by the Mandan Golden K Kiwanis Club in support of their Reading is Fundamental project.

Kiwanis of Jamestown Phonics Phone Project
The Kiwanis Club of Jamestown, North Dakota provided Roosevelt Elementry School 100 phonic phones that provide a teaching tool that helps children hear the words that they say.

Kiwanis Club of Jamestown Hosts Graduating Key Club Senior Ceremony
The Kiwanis Club of Jamestown hosted the Graduating Senior Ceremony for the Jamestown High School Key Club members on April 9, 2007 at the Jamestown High School.  Twelve seniors were honored:  Emerlee Andersen, Jordan Mathison, Ashley Roeske, Kim Schweitzer, Sam Larson, Laura Zink, Amanda Goldade, Chelsea Johnson, Peter Johnson, Nick Enderle, Andrew Lick, and Shalynn Jeske.   

 

Bob Welsh, President of the Kiwanis Club of Jamestown honored the graduating seniors stating “As members of the Jamestown High School Key Club, you, the graduating seniors are valued to us.  Through service we have developed friendships and a commitment to helping others.  We thank you for your leadership, love for service, and friendship.  It has been our privilege to serve with you”.

 

“The Key Club members have served well their home, school, and community.  They have maintained the club and assisted it to grow into the vital organization it is today.  Kiwanis will follow in their footsteps and continue to provide service, build stronger character, and develop our leadership skills”, stated Kimberly Murray, Kiwanis Vice President.

 

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.  Kiwanis meets every Monday, Noon at the Lantern Room in the Jamestown Mall.  Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.  Key Club meets the 2nd and the 4th Monday, 6:15pm of each month at the Jamestown High School.
