Kiwanis International Foundation
9/22/2009 - District: Minnesota-Dakotas - Submitted by: Chuck Schroder, District Chair, KI Foundation

I first want to thank all Kiwanians in the Minnesota Dakota's district for your contributions to the foundation this past year. Because of you, we have reached an all time high for our district and we have been able to reach out and help the children of the world. We have raised over $24,000.00 and hoping to reach $25,000.00 before the end of the September. This can be done if the clubs that have not given yet would step up and help.

We have had a banner year in our district. We had a Robert P. Connelly winner Ryan Jorgensen who got to go before the International convention in Nashville. There's nothing nobler than risking your life to save others. That's what's behind the Kiwanis International Foundation's Robert P. Connelly Medal of Heroism, awarded to those who put the well-being of others above their own. To date, more than 600 people have been so honored. At the convention this past summer another name was added and it was Ryan's. Once again our congratulations go out to Ryan and his family. If your club knows of people who risked their lives to save another, nominate them for the Connelly award. We had two clubs receive grants from the foundation. They are: Rapid City for their shoe program and Sioux Falls, Daybreak for its program with the Spinosa Bears. Then what can I say, what an honor for our district to have Stewart Ross elected to a three term as an International Trustee. Way to go Stewart.

We now have to start thinking ahead for next year and how we can continue. If any of you wish to donate to the raffle next year, please let me know. Again a real big THANK YOU for all the you have given the foundation.
