Partners Breakfast Books Presented
10/15/2009 - District: Minnesota-Dakotas - Submitted by: Bill Lardy, Immediate Past Governor

Theodore Jamerson Elementary School (TJES) is located on the campus of United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) in Bismarck, ND. TJES offers educational services for Native American Students grades K-8 from the surrounding area with preference given to children of UTTC students. UTTC is an NCA accredited institution offering certified and degree programs to American Indians.

For several years the Bismarck Kiwanis Club has read to TJES students as part of its Reading is Fundamental service project. At the conclusion of each reading session students may choose a book for their very own. Kiwanis members enjoy reading to the students and they, in turn, appreciate receiving the books.

2008-2009 First Lady Dixie Lardy asked those attending the Partners Breakfast during the District Convention in Watertown to bring a book suitable for an elementary student to be given to the TJES Library. More than 40 books were brought to the breakfast for the library.

In late August after school opened First Lady Dixie and 2008-2009 Governor Bill Lardy presented the books to the students and staff of TJES. An article and photo of the presentation appeared in the October issue of United Tribes News. Dixie said, "I am grateful to those who brought books for the library. The children were so pleased with them and anxious to check them out of the library. It was a pleasure to present them on behalf of the Minnesota Dakotas District."
